Advantages
of Membership
Advantages of membership at the Pence
Gallery include receipt of
announcements for upcoming exhibitions
(ten a year), Pence Events, the
Gallery newsletter, and discounts on
special events, tours and member's
only day during the November Museum
Market. Becoming a member of the Pence
Gallery is a way to support the arts
in your community.
Becoming
a Docent
Docents are community members who
donate four hours of their time so
that the Pence Gallery's exhibitions
of Northern California art are
available to the public, free. A
docent typically is scheduled one
afternoon a month, and duties include
opening and closing the Gallery and
welcoming viewers.
The
word docent comes from the Latin
meaning "to teach," but most
docents at the Pence regard the time
spent with the art in the Gallery as a
learning experience. By attending the
artists' lectures and reading the
material on the exhibiting artists at
the Gallery, the docent is able to
pass along insights into the
exhibition to interested visitors.
Being
a docent at the Pence Gallery is a
pleasant and rewarding way of being
involved in the Davis community and
with the art world.
Board Membership
Board members help administrate the
Gallery and oversee operations. Their
terms are two years and can have two
consecutive terms on a volunteer
basis.
Friends of the Pence
Friends of the Pence are individuals
who provide a variety of volunteer
assistance to the Gallery through
gifts in kind. Examples of such gifts
include lending graphic design
assistance for events or hosting an
opening at the Gallery.
