Our
New Building!!!
MISSION
STATEMENT
Through
the operation of a non-profit art
gallery and cultural museum, the
Pence Gallery serves the community
by generating an awareness of the
artistic, historical and cultural
heritage of California while
providing educational enrichment.
The
Pence Gallery fulfills this mission
through museum-caliber exhibitions and
educational programs. These offerings
are supported by the Pence Gallery
Association and guided by the
Director. The Association raises funds
through memberships, gifts, art sales,
and special events. Docent volunteers
host the Gallery during open hours and
assist the Director and Gallery
Assistant with regular operations.
Since its incorporation in 1976, the
Pence Gallery has served as a leader
in the visual fine arts of Northern
California.
HISTORY
The
Pence Gallery in the heart of downtown
Davis, California is a not-for-profit
art gallery. Its name derives from the
original benefactors, Joe and Hazel
Pence. The building, once the site of
Joe Pence's thriving dental practice,
was gifted to the city of Davis by the
couple to be used as a venue for the
fine arts.
A
hallmark for the fine arts, the Pence
Gallery has been a member of the Davis
community for over thirty years. Fine
art exhibitions throughout the year
are partnered with art lectures, Art
Smart programs, and tours. Bach's
Lunch Musicale series presents
classical performances on the
Gallery's outdoor stage. The noontime
Friday musical presentations take
place in May and October.
