FUND
RAISING AND EXPANSION
The
Pence Gallery is planning to achieve
greater excellence in the celebration
of Northern California arts, culture,
and history. In pursuit of this goal,
the Pence Gallery Association has
constructed a state-of-the-art
building on its current site. For
reasons that are both practical and
aesthetic, the new facility has
completely replaced the existing
structure. Designed by the San
Francisco firm of Barcelon and Jang,
the new building will offer three
museum-style galleries as well as a
community education hall, conference
room, learning center, and kitchen
amounting to 4,880 square feet. The
site will include an outdoor stage in
a tranquil setting with a sculpture
garden.
A
facility committee of eight community
members guides the project. Each
member contributes his or her unique
professional insight to this endeavor.
The committee is comprised of
designers, architects, artists, arts
administrators, educators and others.
The
Davis City Council has committed
$250,000 toward the proposed
$1,500,000 needed for the new
museum-style gallery. A portion of
raised funds will be used to establish
an endowment to ensure financial
stability for the future.
Through
extended hours and openings, the Pence
Gallery will further vitalize evening
activities. Expanded exhibitions,
educational and cultural programs will
focus attention on Davis as a regional
center for the arts - regularly
benefiting residents, businesses,
artists and visitors from throughout
the area.
