EVENTS

Art Auction
The biannual Art Auction is a festive event with viewing and bidding on paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculpture and more. Bidding occurs in both live and silent forums. The Art Auction is a fundraising event held at the Pence Gallery every other year. Artists from throughout Northern California donate works of art for the auction, and proceeds from this event directly support the Pence Gallery's exhibition, educational and outreach programs. Specialty items such as travel packages, private art tours, and children's art supply baskets are also available. Gourmet hors d'oeuvres and refreshing beverages by regional chefs are offered to ticket holders.

City of Davis Juried Show
Annually, the Pence Gallery hosts the city of Davis Juried Exhibit. Started in 2001, artists from throughout Yolo County are invited to participate. From each media specific exhibition, the city of Davis purchases artworks for its art collection. David Hollowell, artist and professor of art at the University of California, Davis, and Shirley Dubnick, Director of the Solomon Dubnick Gallery in Sacramento, curator, and art educator, have served as jurors.

Community Hang-Up
This annual December exhibition provides local artists an opportunity to exhibit in a popular gallery setting. Artists at diverse levels of accomplishment are able to have a public venue for their work. As a part of the Community Hang-up celebration, the Pence Gallery recognizes two artists who have positively influenced the community through their efforts in the arts with the Community Art Awards. Financial awards of $200 each are given to each artist. These gifts, endowed by a generous donor, are given to support each artist in their own artistic endeavors. A winning name is randomly drawn from the exhibiting artists to whom a cash award is presented. One work per artist, fully prepared for hanging, per artist is accepted with an entry fee, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Art Trips
Art trips provide an opportunity for an intimate group to travel to a locale guided by the Pence Gallery Director. The excursions are recognized for their insightfulness, personal approach, and fun. In the past travelers have gone to Santa Fe, New Mexico, New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

Studio Tours
The Pence Gallery hosts studio tours of some of the area's finest artists. Participants ride in a luxury coach on this guided day-long excursion to meet noted artists in their private studios, and learn first-hand about their work and artistic development. A gourmet luncheon, wine tasting, and artist presentation is offered to refresh participants at midday. The Studio tour is a biannual event featuring a different selection of artists each year.

Ceramics Conference
The Pence Gallery participates in the yearly, national ceramics conference held in Davis. The California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Art in association with the John Natsoulas Gallery is held the first weekend in May each year. Ceramic artists exhibit work in local galleries and lecture on related topics.
