Slice: A Juried Cross-Section of Regional Art
July 8 – August 20, 2015
Reception and Award Ceremony: Friday, July 10, 6-9 PM
ELIGIBILITY AND MEDIA:
The Pence’s Slice exhibit, now in its 4th year, is open to all California artists, and showcases work in all media that is conceptually thoughtful, technically skilled, and representative of contemporary trends in art. Work may be in any medium, but must be 3’ wide maximum or under for wall work. Work must not exceed 50 lb, and be ready to install. Accepted work must be original, completed within the past three years, and remain at Pence Gallery during the entire exhibit.
HOW TO ENTER:
Entries must be submitted via www.callforentry.org. A link is on our website for the application. The $40 ($35 for Pence members) registration fee covers up to three entries. Each entry is limited to one digital image for two-dimensional work or two for three-dimensional work. Please label each digital image with the artist’s first and last name and entry number. Each image must be saved as a jpg.
DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORK:
Accepted work may be hand-delivered between June 26- July 3, or shipped and insured by the artist to the Pence. Expenses for shipping to and from the Gallery are the responsibility of the artist.
Monetary awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes will be awarded based on the Juror’s choice and are $400, $300 and $200.
The Pence Gallery will insure all artwork while it is on the premises, through August 25th. All work must be picked up by Aug. 25.
This year’s juror is Shelly Willis, Director of Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, a 37-year old City/County joint arts agency. Willis previously worked for SMAC as their Art in Public Places Coordinator, overseeing many projects, including the Sacramento International Airport, the largest public art project in the city’s history. She received her BA in Business and Art History from California State University, Chico, and is the recipient of two City Manager Commendation Awards for outstanding performance. She has taught University courses in public art and is the co-editor of the book, Public Art Practice.
The Pence is a nonprofit art gallery, established in 1975, whose mission is to educate and inspire the community by exhibiting high caliber art by local and regional artists. This exhibit will be displayed in the Main Gallery, measuring 1000 sq. ft., with 12’ ceilings.

Sales are encouraged. Indicate on the entry form whether or not the work is for sale. The Pence Gallery will retain a 40% commission on all work sold. Prices quoted on the entry form may not be changed after acceptance into the show.
