Traditions Revealed by Association of Clay & Glass Artists
April 27-June 10, 2007
The best in contemporary ceramics created by members of Association of Clay and Glass Artists (ACGA) will be on view in Follow the Line: Traditions Revealed at the Pence Gallery from April 27 - June 10. Juror Robert Brady, ceramic artist and professor of art at California State University at Sacramento, selected a diverse array of highly imaginative ceramic works by thirty-one artists. Ceramics on display will include figurative sculptures, teapots, and a variety of elegant vessels that interpret personal and aesthetic sources of tradition. Expressive sculptures capturing the human form by Janet Bajorek, Tom Decker, Robert Finn, Linda FitzGibbon, Gail Rushmore, Sharon Virtue, and Fred Yokel were chosen, while refined decorative works by Lesley Baker, Jane Grimm, Bruno Kark, Janet Malan, Diane Levinson, Kazuko Matthews, Carolyn Means, Lee Middleman, Phyllis Pacin, Sara & Tom Post, Patricia Yenawine, and Molly Prier are also on display. Teapots by Linda Mau, Carol Wedemeyer, Sylvia Rios challenge traditional notions of functionality, while artists Gerry Wallace, Virginia Rigney, Kathy Pallie, Jan Schachter, Judith Serebrin, and Julia Terr delve into nature for their inspiration.
A companion exhibit of the same title is at the Davis Art Center, where works by four artists: Lesley Baker, Bruno Kark, Kazuko Matthews, and Julia Terr, will be highlighted. The Davis Art Center display continues until May 26.
