Juror's Talks: Friday, Feb. 12
5:15-6 PM, Sharon Bladholm
Sharon Bladholm, one of the exhibit's jurors, leads an illustrated talk about her work as an artist with various scientific expeditions, including her current projects.
6-6:45 PM, Shih-Wen Young
Shih-Wen Young will talk about the selection of work for the current consilience show. Young is a physicist and artist who with Sharon Bladholm, juried the Consilience exhibit.
Statement: Ann Savageau is an environmental artist who creates mixed-media sculpture and installations. Her work deals with the natural world, human culture, and their intersection. Her current interests include global warming and environmental destruction; consumer culture and wasteful consumption; and the transformation and reuse of post-consumer waste. Ann’s Stanford anthropological training, her interest in the natural world, and the many places she has lived are reflected in her art. Ann received her A.B. from Stanford University, and her M.F.A. from Wayne State University. She taught Studio Art at the University of Michigan Residential College from 1978-2002, and she was Professor of Design at University of California Davis from 2007-2014. Ann has exhibited her work in over 70 exhibitions, both nationally and internationally. She has given numerous lectures and workshops nationally and internationally and has juried and curated many exhibitions. Her project Bags Across the Globe, run from 2008-2012 and involved collaboration with over 200 people in 63 countries across the world.
